ReadBeyond Is Dead, Long Live ReadBeyond!

Last week ReadBeyond's partners unanimously agreed to voluntarily liquidate the company.

The reason for our decision is the lack of real, commercially viable opportunities matching ReadBeyond's mission to innovate the digital publishing scene and its current resources.

Despite what I previously wrote, I have spent the last four months cleaning the aeneas and Minstrel code bases and writing the relative documentation, but now I simply cannot afford working on them for the glory only, so it is time to move on.

For practical purposes, this is what happens next:

  1. the readbeyond.it domain will be transferred to yours truly, and the ReadBeyond Web site will stay online, along with its resources, including the free EPUB 3 Audio-eBooks, courtesy of the Pettarin Foundation;
  2. aeneas and its documentation will no longer be developed and documented, unless a sponsor will tangibly support such activities;
  3. I will continue developing the Minstrel app in my spare time, hopefully with the help of other FLOSS contributors;
  4. as a result of the previous point, I will maintain the official release of the app, under the original name Menestrello, in the App Store and on Google Play, so that also non-dev users could install and use it, always for free (thanks again to the Pettarin Foundation). New features, bug fixes, and support will be administered on a best effort basis.

On a personal note, I am currently working on a free-lance high-performance computing project which will keep me busy for the next 6-8 weeks.

After that, I will be on the market, and I have already started doing interviews for a full time job as SW/R&D engineer (in Europe). If you have a vacancy and you like what I have done so far, feel free to get in touch.
